Hello all.

I was wondering, how many of you own PDA's besides the Rex? Being a bit of an addict myself, I own quite a few devices. [My desk has half a dozen cradles sitting on it, not counting the cables and connectors I don't use.]

Thank god I have a big desk!

So, what do you all have?

My list is:

-Current devices, the ones I own and use right now-

* HP Jornada 565 Pocket PC + 128 MB CF card. [mainly for reading Ebooks]
* Palm IIIC
* Palm M130 + 128 MB Secure Digital card
* Sony Clie SL10 + 64 MB Memory Stick

-Devices I own but do not use at this time-

* Psion Revo Plus, 16 mb english version. I bought it because PSION was pulling out of the consumer handheld market.. and I allways wanted a Revo. It is sitting unused in a box at this time.

* Psion Siena. I used it for a month; this was between an organiser and my first Palm Pilot. It is unused in nearly mint condition. My brother used it for a while but isn't geek enough to actually use it.

* Philips Nino WinCE. A great little machine. Actually, it's the size and weight of a building brick. I bought it used, because.. I wanted one.

* Oregon Scientific Osaris. After I bought my IIIC, I wanted to try out EPOC for a change, so I bought a used Osaris, 4 mb model.

-Devices I've owned and sold-

* Palm Pilot Professional, 1MB My very first real PDA. I sold it to my uncle when I got my IIIE

* Palm III E, bought it after graduating high school. [2000] sold it last year when I bought the IIIC for Very Cheap. [E 129,-]

* Compaq Ipaq 3630 I bought it in 2001. My first Pocket PC. After little over a year, the battery died and I sold it for a reasonable price.

Well, that's about it. Now it's your turn.

I had started off with an Atari 1040ST and stuck with it for years & years. (they were amazingly ahead of their time), Eventually got a PC, then got my son a PC, then got myself another PC, then got my son another PC. I paid premium price at computer stores for all of these machines. then I paid premium price at the computer store for a laptop. I think I still owe money for all of this outdated equipment, but I learned from the experience. Then I built a computer entirely from discarded components (for free). I've been upgrading that one ever since & will never buy an entire new computer again. I couldnt tell you what brand of computer I am using... there is no name on it. And at least once a month I upgrade something on it. Based on my PC experiences, and seeing a plethora of handhelds out there..... I waited on the sidelines for quite a while. I had found out a laptop wasnt as portable as I had expected. My main criteria was to have something with me that would remain with me & not be left behind on my desk. I wanted to have facts and figures with me, but don't need to enter data 'in the field'. The REX was the obvious choice. I dont care that it is an orphaned product. I still set up and use my Atari from time to time.

As far as "PDA-esqe" (however you spell that) goes, I have an Audrey Internent Appliance. You could sync your palm piolot to it, but I couldn't figure out how to get the rex to sync with it. I kinda use it for pda related stuff, but without a PDA. For example, I have a web page on the local network that lists phone numbers. I can call this up via the audrey to get a phone list. Also my parent's use one to hold recipes.

And for other techy stuff, in operation right now I have a total of 3 computers, 2 laptops, and 2 internet appliances (the two audreys). One pc is mine, the other two are servers. A linux and a windows one. One laptop is what my parents use, and the other is mine. I also have a few computers collecting dust in the basement. Sucks because I remember paying $800 for the Compaq AP500 (PIII 500) and probably only used it for a year. It was a server, but was loud, big, and power hungry. Now I can't even get $300 for it on eBay. Sad

Then I'm just starting a project where I'm going to get a computer inside an old external cd-rom backpack case. Will be interesting.

I have one Rex 3000, one 5000, 2 Rex 6000 and one Sony Clie NR70V/U

I am still trying to figure out how to sinc my Rex with the Palm desktop. Any ideas?

Here are my PDA's and their histories, from '97 to '04...

--PDA-- --STATUS--
1. REX 3 - sat on it and broke the screen. (great while it lasted)
2. Palm III - dropped and broke the screen. (great while it lasted)
3. Visor8mb - gave to friend, he dropped and broke the screen.
4. Rex6k_A - washed in the laundry... (doh!) Confused

5. Rex6k_B - dropped and broke screen...

Then I took Rex A and B apart, took the laundered screen from Rex A, and put it in the 'cracked-screen-electrically-working' Rex B and now I am back in business! Razz

So my second Rex is still running strong, with a clean, laundered screen!

I used to sync my palm, my Rex, Yahoo calander, and my Nextel phone -- all through MS Outlook.

This can be done with each having proper Outlook sync software installed... I used Intellesync, Hotsync, and Truesync all at once... it did work. Since then, my palm died, I got a different phone, and so on... so now I just sync my Rex, Yahoo, and T720 phone.

The configuration can get tricky, make sure you know which devices are 'upstream' and which are 'downstream'. For example, the Palm has more fields in it's database than the Rex, so if the Rex should be downstream and never delete records from Outlook (only add records). And the phone is even worse (fewer fields in it's DB)... so with the sync software, only let the Palm and Outlook 'delete' data, as you require...
